BEFORE WE BEGIN ...

Hole in the soffit to see what's cooking up there.

Soffits will come down, ceiling will go up, lighting will be replaced.

Pantry and desk ... and lots of soffit! Wallpaper will be gone and walls will be painted the same whiteish color as the rest of the main floor.

Icky blue floor to be replaced with wood.

Breakfast Room ... big changes coming!

Floor to be replaced with creamy tile.

Unflattering, ugly fluorescent light will go!

 

AFTER WORK DAY 2: DEMOLITION COMPLETE (04/12/06)

Surprise! Electrical needs to be redone ... all the plaster walls come down!

All that ugly blue floor is gone!!

 

Very messy electric in flexible tubing not up to code. Note the ancient wall paper that was at the back of the pantry.

Ceiling rafters. Ugly old A/C Unit at lower left will be gone and replaced with working transom window.

Preparing to replace floor with much prettier cream tile.

Ugly blue tile floor was in the office too, can you believe?? To be replaced with wood.

AFTER WORK DAY 7: DRYWALL IS UP (04/19/06)

 

West view: fume hood.

Northwest view.

South view into the Dining Room.

Powder room light box is gone! Fixture will hang from new outlet on wall where bulb is.

 

 

AFTER WORK DAY 9: DRYWALL IS PRIMED, CABINETS ARE BACK (04/21/06)

 

West view. New oven cabinet will be made and installed to left of these cabinets .

North view: cooktop to be replaced.

Northwest view. Note that cabinets are higher than before (by 4 inches). The space will be tiled.

Northeast view. Board covers transom opening. Refrigerator (currently on back porch) will be to left of door. Ceilings will have crown mouldings.

Trushie is wondering when this will all be over so life can get back to normal.

 

AFTER WORK DAY 16: WOOD FLOORING IS DONE (05/03/06)

Monday 4/24: Wood planks are delivered.

More planks.

4/28: Floor has been installed and sanded. Stain samples will be removed during final sanding.

Also 4/28: office floor.

5/3: The staining and finishing are done!

AFTER WORK DAY 24: BATHROOM FLOOR, TRIM, AND CABINETRY ARE INSTALLED (05/12/06)

5/7: Oven cabinet -- it will have doors on top and a drawer on the bottom.

5/7: New trim around closet door so it meets the new floor; room door also has new trim.

5/6: Cracks in Corian around cooktop cut-out have been repaired, and counters have been sanded and polished.

5/8: Powder Room floor is done.

5/9: New faucet installed (and matching towel ring and toilet paper holder, not shown ).

5/11: Crown moulding and cabinet trim in kitchen is complete.

5/11: Breakfast Room cabinetry is installed. Lefthand cabinet will have 2 shelves and a door. Radiator cover will have a grille to hide the ugly radiator. Opening on right will be covered with panel to match cabinet door.

Full view of bench seat. Top is hinged with storage inside (yeah!). On right is another cabinet, which will also have shelves and door.

Trim around all doors, windows, and new baseboard and "base shoe" are installed.

 

AFTER WORK DAY 25: CONSTRUCTION IS MOSTLY DONE! (05/16/06)

New oven is installed.

And so is the cooktop!

Lighting fixtures have also been installed. There is also one over the kitchen sink and one in the breakfast room..

Isn't that a handsome transom? We hope the glass will be coming soon!.

This bathroom light will be much more flattering than that awful fluorescent one!

Lolly and Trushy are checking out the new landscape.

Staining and painting took a little longer than we expected, and then there were some
delays in getting cabinet doors and our new faucet. We're glad to be done!
